Designing a Career Experience That Inspires Belonging
Designing a Career Experience That Inspires Belonging

Overview
At its core, a careers page is a promise — the first moment potential talent meets a company’s values. Bounteous’ careers page did its job, but it didn’t tell our story. It listed roles, but it didn’t reflect the energy of the teams behind them. It shared information, but it didn’t communicate identity. The experience felt transactional when it needed to feel human and aspirational.
As the lead designer, I set out with the team to create a careers experience that balanced clarity with emotion — one that made it easy for candidates to find roles while also helping them understand who we are as a company. Together, we aimed to reveal the creativity, collaboration, and culture that define Bounteous, transforming a functional job board into an experience that inspired connection and belonging.

The page worked.
The experience didn’t.
It technically met its purpose — listing roles and sharing details — but failed to create an experience that felt intuitive or meaningful.
Engagement was low: only 1 in 4 visitors explored beyond the job list, and even fewer progressed into the application flow. The page wasn’t converting interest into action. Candidates weren’t finding roles efficiently — nor were they connecting with the brand behind them.

Where Users Got Lost — and What We Found
To understand why engagement was low, I ran a quick heuristic audit and predictive heatmap of the careers page. The results showed exactly where users were getting lost:
Low attention on the “Open Roles” section
Scattered focus across non-essential areas
Weak hierarchy that made it unclear where to look next
Storytelling elements overlooked, limiting emotional connection

Collaboration was critical. I partnered closely with Marketing, People & Culture, and Engineering as we aligned on storytelling, recruitment goals, and technical feasibility — ensuring the final experience resonated emotionally and performed seamlessly across devices.
We built the redesign around three principles, grounded in the experience vision I defined: making discovery effortless with global search and intuitive filters, bringing culture forward through rich visuals and motion, and creating a narrative flow that guides candidates from curiosity to confident action.

Empowered Search Tools
I shaped the redesign around three core principles, and we built the experience collaboratively: making discovery effortless with global search and intuitive filters, bringing culture forward through rich visuals and motion, and creating a narrative flow that guides candidates from curiosity to confident action.
Result: Candidates found relevant roles nearly 2× faster and explored more listings per visit.

I transformed the page into a narrative experience — weaving together authentic visuals, motion, and employee testimonials to show what life at Bounteous truly feels like. With Engineering and Marketing, we created a scrolling story where each section revealed another layer of culture, creativity, and collaboration.
Result: Engagement increased by ~35%, and bounce rates dropped significantly.

I refreshed the UI with bold typography, vibrant imagery, and a cohesive design system, while we ensured it scaled consistently across devices. The layout guided the eye naturally from story to action, reinforcing brand identity through every interaction.
Impact: Improved hierarchy and intuitive navigation increased overall exploration, with candidates moving more fluidly through roles, stories, and application paths.

This project reinforced that great UX lives where functionality meets emotion. By combining efficient search with authentic storytelling, we transformed a static job board into a meaningful brand experience. It reminded me that successful design doesn’t just help users complete a task — it helps them connect, feel inspired, and see themselves as part of something bigger.
